The Tobacco and Vapes Act
The Tobacco and Vapes Act is now law after receiving Royal Assent on 29 April, paving the way to create the world’s first smoke-free generation.
The law also targets youth vaping, banning vape ads and sponsorship, and tightening rules on packaging and displays that could attract children.
Stronger smoke-free rules will help protect children and vulnerable people from second-hand smoke.
The law changes are:
- From next January, it will be illegal to sell tobacco to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009.
- From 27 June 2026 all vape and nicotine product advertising and sponsorship will be banned.
The law changes will:
- Protect young people for generations to come.
- Protect young people from ever starting to smoke.
- Back current smokers with the support they need to quit for good.
