Take a look at what our volunteers have been doing.

Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE Audits)

Our volunteers take part in annual Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment at North Middlesex, Whittington and St Ann’s hospitals.

Patients and members of the public score the hospitals on whether the facilities are clean, tidy, attractive and appropriate for providing good care. They also sample the food.

This year our volunteers spotted a number of issues which are now being addressed by the hospitals.

The PLACE audit gave us an insight into a day in the life of the North Middlesex Hospital.

Accident & Emergency Care survey

Our volunteers assisted as we carried out a survey of A&E. As a result of our report to the hospital:

- There is now an extra volunteer in A&E to help patients.

- Forms are translated into eight languages.

- Screens installed showing waiting time.

- Patients pay for car parking on exit not entrance.

The patients I spoke to for the A&E survey realised their comments would be heard and would help the service.

Information stalls and events

Our volunteers help us to run stalls, provide information and gather feedback.

This year our volunteers helped us to speak to 856 people on 25 stalls. It's a great way to meet people and talk to people around Haringey.

"What a buzz volunteering is! You spend time feeling useful and you get to meet lovely people. What’s not to like?"

Tony, Healthwatch Haringey Volunteer.
