What you need to know about GP online consultations
Since 1 October 2025 General Practices are required to keep their online patient consultation toolkit open during core hours.

Online consultations allow you to contact your GP in the comfort of your own home, at work, or on the go, using your PC, laptop or mobile phone without having to go to your GP surgery, or call and wait in a queue on your phone.
You can use online consultations for non-urgent appointment requests, medication queries and admin requests. In some practices, where they use total triage models, the practice will also accept an urgent request.
The NHS has put together some answers to patient’s frequently asked questions about GP online consultations to help you understand more about online consultations.
