The Cancer Epidemiology Unit at the University of Oxford is designing a new Ethnicity and Breast Cancer project - and they are forming a PPI group to help shape how the study is designed. They are inviting women aged 25 years or older living in the UK who are from African, Caribbean, Indian and Pakistani backgrounds to join the PPI group.

What is the study about?

The study will investigate:

  • Why women of African, Caribbean, Indian and Pakistani backgrounds are less likely to get breast cancer but more likely to have more aggressive forms of the disease when they do
  • How different risk factors vary in women from different ethnic groups, and what influence they have on the risk of getting breast cancer and the type of breast cancer diagnosed

What will I be doing as a member of the PPI group?

  • Attend in-person or online meetings
  • Help design ways of sharing information about the study to communities
  • Co-design documents/resources to ensure information is clear and accessible

The Prevention and Population Research Committee at Cancer Research UK are funding this research work.

The researchers are establishing a national Ethnicity and Breast Cancer Working Group (EBCWG) and the ethnically diverse Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) panel, both of which will be used to support the delivery and dissemination of the proposed research.
