2015 LPA Assist Clinics by Dementia Partners
The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) Assist Clinic provides free LPA Assist clinics to members of local charities and patients at local GP surgeries, Tottenham, every month. The free LPA clinics are available to adults with a care package or adults with medical problems (including cognitive impairment).
Monthly Dates:
- Thursday 13 August 2015 9.00am to 4.00pm (12 noon till 1pm is reserved for a drop in session for general advice)
- Thursday 17 September 2015 9.00am to 4.00pm (12 noon till 1pm is reserved for a drop in session for general advice)
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ASSISTANCE: We do not provide any legal advice. Our remit is to assist you to complete LPA forms in the clinic and guide you on how to get the required signatures and registration of the LPA. Please be aware of this when making contact with clinics. Please refer to free guidance notes about ‘what is a LPA’ available from Alzheimer’s Society. Two slots will need to be booked for two types of LPA needed.

Good Innovation is working with Haringey Council to deliver a series of workshops looking at new ways to deliver adult care and support in Haringey in the future.
As part of this process Haringey Council are keen to hear from local people about what they like and dislike about current services in Haringey and what could be done differently and better.
Good Innovation are running three workshops to hear contributions and ideas from local people. These workshops will divided by theme:
- On Thursday 13th August between 10.30 – 12.30 we’ll be focusing on day opportunities for people with learning disabilities.
- On Thursday 13th August between 2.30 – 4.30 we’ll be focusing on day opportunities for older people and those with dementia.
- On Friday 14th August between 10.00 – 12.00 we’ll be focusing on supported living.

An advance decision is a statement that lets your doctor know what your wishes are if, in the future, you are unable to make a decision about your healthcare.
A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal way to give someone power to make decisions about your health and social care when you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself

The Better Care Fund is a joint fund which has been created between Haringey Council and Haringey CCG. The money will be spent on improving the ways health services and social care services work together, starting with services for older people (over 65) and people with long term health conditions.
Meet Harry Gray*, a local resident who will benefit from services supported by the Better Care Fund.
• 75 year old widower.
• Has several health conditions including breathing difficulties, dementia and depression. He has also had a number of falls.
• Visited A&E 32 times in the last year. Got admitted ten times.
• Cared for by his daughter.
How the Better Care Fund will change Harry’s life
The Better Care Fund will:
• provide a personalised care co-ordinator to support Harry to access the right local health and care services including bereavement counselling.
• help him get more involved in community activities to reduce loneliness, via the Neighbourhood Connect service.
• provide at home support services to help him regain his confidence and independence, plus prevent further falls and reduce hospital visits.
• support Harry’s daughter so that she is better able to care for him.
• make sure all the professionals involved in Harry’s care are fully informed about his case to deliver a seamless service for him.

A networking event for local Patient Participation Groups (PPGs)
In September 2014 the Healthwatch Haringey Board met with a number of Haringey Patient Participation Group (PPG) members. In response to requests made by the PPG members who attended that meeting we are now holding a follow up event to:
- reach a larger cross section of those involved in Haringey PPGs
- better understand how PPGs can contribute to improving GP services
- share good practice and learn from each other
- explore the interest in setting up a Haringey PPG Network

Compassionate Healthcare - How to support and enhance it
This conference is for all staff working in Healthcare.
This event will build on the work carried out at Whittington Health in developing 'The Compassion Model', by showcasing evidence-based methods of supporting and enhancing the quality and level of compassion in healthcare staff. It aims to leave you inspired and confident in maintaining your compassion and that of your staff while facing the ongoing challenges of the modern healthcare environment.

Dr Mary Welford – Chair of the compassionate mind foundation

There are great opportunities throughout the day to get involved in interactive sessions such as a live Schwartz round, compassionate supervision and personal resilience training. The event will feature a panel of service-users to share their experiences, some of whom will be doing so through accomplished spoken-word performances.

3rd December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that 3 December be observed every year as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Day was initially proclaimed to commemorate the anniversary of the General Assembly's adoption of the World Programme of Action concerning Persons with Disabilities to promote understanding about disability issues and to increase awareness from the integration of disabled persons in every aspect of political, social economic and cultural life.
